Kitchen tickets
Firing a KOT, what the kitchen gets, what prints where, and how to send a station's slip again.
What firing means
Fire sends every unfired line on the ticket to the kitchen as one KOT. It is all or nothing per press. There is no per-line fire and no course or round setting: rounds happen naturally, because each press makes a new KOT.
The button reads Fire KOT with the quantity about to go, and it greys out when there is nothing new. On the bill each line carries a small line saying where it stands: Not sent with its station, or Fired with its station.
Once a line is fired its quantity locks. Its note can still be edited, so a correction the kitchen needs still reaches them.
What happens when you press it
If every station on the ticket has a live network printer, nothing opens. One message tells you the tickets went, and names the printer and the stations. That is the normal case at a counter set up with network printers.
The KOT fired dialog only opens when some station had nowhere to print. It shows the KOT number, the item count and the time, then a row per station: the station, where it printed (or that it is live on the kitchen display), the dishes, any notes, the item count, and a button to send that station’s slip again. At the foot, Print KOT prints the whole ticket here, and Back to order returns you.
If a dish had no recipe behind it, the message is honest about it: the ticket fired, but stock was not deducted, and it names what was missing.
What is on a printed ticket
A kitchen ticket carries no money. It reads, top to bottom:
- The KOT number, large.
- *** REPRINT *** if it is a second copy.
- A channel banner for takeaway or an aggregator. Dine-in gets none, because it is the silent default.
- The table, the order number and the time.
- Then, per station: the station name in capitals, each dish as a quantity and a name in large bold, its add-ons indented underneath, and its note in bold.
The paper width is whatever that printer is set to, 80 mm or 58 mm.
Sending a slip again
Two kinds of reprint, both from the KOT fired dialog:
- Print KOT reprints the whole ticket here, banner and all.
- The button on a station’s row sends that one station’s slip again. Where the server can re-queue it, it comes out on the same printer the original did. Otherwise it prints where you are standing.
Every reprint is written to the record. If that fails you are told, rather than the reprint quietly going unlogged.
Note: once you leave the KOT fired dialog, the counter has no route back to that ticket. Reprint from the dialog while it is open.
