The captain app
The waiter's phone: seat a table, take the order, fire it, raise the bill and take payment, and what only the counter can do.
The captain app is POS on a waiter’s phone. It shares the counter’s menu, floor, tickets and receipts, and it is deliberately narrower: a waiter carries the order, not the outlet.
Orders taken here are attributed to the waiter who signed in. The counter’s orders are not, because the counter runs on a shared account.
The two screens
Tables opens on the outlet’s room. A segmented control switches between Dine-in and Takeaway, a search finds a table, an order or a customer, and the tables appear as chips grouped by zone. Searching spills takeaway matches onto the dine-in tab, so you find the order either way.
Tapping a chip peeks at the bill without opening it, and offers Add items, Raise bill, and removing a line.
Orders is the second and last tab in the bottom capsule. There is no Availability and no Close on the phone.
Your account sheet holds the outlet you are serving, a navigation density setting, and Sign out.
Taking an order
One scrolling menu list with a search and category chips. Tapping a dish opens its sheet: the choices marked Pick one, Required or Optional, quick note chips, a Note for kitchen, and a confirm button carrying the composed price.
A bar at the bottom carries the cart. With unsent lines it reads Review & send with the line count and the running total. Once everything is fired it becomes View order, says all items are sent, and offers Raise bill.
Review & send opens the ticket in two halves. Sending now is editable: change quantities, remove a line, add a note. Already fired is read-only, and each line carries how the kitchen is doing with it, Pending, Preparing, Ready or Served, plus anything voided or sent back. Then Fire to kitchen.
Firing takes over the screen: the KOT number, how many items went and from which table, then Add more to this order or Done · back to tables. The captain never opens the counter’s KOT dialog.
What a waiter can do
Open and seat orders, dine-in and takeaway. Add and edit items and notes. Fire. Raise the bill. Take payment and settle. Comp the whole order, with the same required note and a manager’s approval. Apply a bill discount. Cancel a pre-bill fired line. Void a bill or a bill line with a manager’s approval. Clear a ticket where everything was cancelled, with approval. Attach a loyalty member. Print a receipt.
What only the counter can do
| Not on the phone | Why |
|---|---|
| Availability | Turning dishes off is the counter’s. |
| The day close | The day closes at the main counter. |
| Today’s bills | Reprinting a settled receipt is done at the counter. |
| Setting up the floor, adding a table | A waiter seats what exists. |
| Table options, move and merge | Renaming, re-covering and moving a table are the counter’s. |
| Comping one line | The phone comps the whole order only. |
| Settling a bill with cash on it | Cash settles at the main counter, and the sheet says so. |
Printing from the phone
The captain’s first choice is Print at counter, which sends the slip to the outlet’s registered main counter over the internet, so the guest’s receipt comes out where the paper is. Print here is the fallback. If the counter has not confirmed, the app says so and offers to send again or print here.
