Closing the day

The blind close: counting your tenders, what holds the day open, and what the owner sees afterwards.

The day close is blind. Staff type what they counted, and the day’s recorded sales are not shown to them until the counts are in. That is the whole point of it, so the page is built to make the count honest rather than convenient.

The card

Close the day. sits at the top with the date and the outlet, and on the right a Counted figure that simply adds up what you have typed. It tells you nothing about the day’s take.

Under it, four bands:

  1. Tenders. One field per method your outlet accepts: Cash in the drawer, counting every note and coin minus the float, then Card total and UPI total.
  2. Sign. Who is closing, and their PIN. The pad reshuffles after a refused attempt.
  3. Hold to close. A press-and-hold button, because once it is closed the day’s sales are final.

What holds the day open

When something blocks the close, the signing and closing bands are not drawn at all and the tender fields are dimmed. A card headed Still to do says what:

  • Open orders. Each one is listed with its label, how long it has been open and its amount, and tapping it jumps straight there. Settle them, or ask a manager to cancel them.
  • Unfinished closing checklists, where the checklist is marked as blocking the day close. The jobs are named. Finish them and come back.

Some checklists do not block but do want an explanation. Then the foot of the card grows a Why you are closing now box, with the note that the owner reads it and a few words is enough.

Below the card, Tonight’s closing jobs shows how many are done and lets you open any of them in Ops.

Two more rules worth knowing: the day is closed from the main counter, not from any terminal, and it needs the day-close permission.

After it is closed

What you see depends on who you are.

Staff get a confirmation that the day is closed, the totals are saved, and a small card reading back their own figures. Nothing about the day’s sales.

An owner or reviewer gets two panels side by side. On the left, their counts, locked, with who closed it and when. On the right, Today’s sales, per method and in total. Before the counts are entered, every figure on that panel is blurred, with a line saying sales stay hidden until you enter your counts.

Under them sit Comps this shift and the discount review. See Comps, voids and owner alerts.

Settings behind it

In the console, under Settings → Devices & KDS → Billing & close:

  • Tenders accepted. Switching one off stops new tenders; paid bills and past days are untouched. You cannot switch them all off.
  • When the day starts, so a late-night business’s takings land on the right day.
  • Closing checklists, deciding which ones can hold the day open.
  • Close reminder, a nudge at a time you pick if the day is still open.

Where the numbers live

The counter itself shows no sales figures outside that post-close panel. Today’s numbers, the close ledger and every report live in the console: the Today home for the day, and Reports for any range.
